Mycelial Forest depicts symbiotic relationships between trees and soil organisms amidst a continually changing landscape. As old growth trees grow and decay, their roots are visible as they exchange nutrients through a subsurface mycelium network. Changing weather, wildfires and disease epidemics drive the evolution of trees within this virtual landscape. As viewers approach the projection, their presence strengthens the fungal web that distributes resources and enhances the resilience of the forest. This simulated ecosystem is in a continual process of becoming and is shaped by cumulative viewer interaction.
